Please make a photo of the skin lesion first.

Make sure that the photo shows the lesion as sharply as possible. Although the lesion should be surrounded by healthy skin, try to photograph the lesion from a close distance.

After uploading the photo, you still have the possibility to enlarge the photo and determine the interesting image region.

About AI Based Lesion Detection

The artificial intelligence has tried to assign the image to various neoplasms of the skin. The probability for the assignment to each group is given as percentage.

The AI system was training with several hundred very accurately diagnosed images.

With test data the AI model used here achieved a sensitivity of 75% where as Dermatologists achieve a sensitivity of 80% for the differentiation of benign and malignant lesions.

AI calculated probabilities

When evaluating the image of your skin, the artificial intelligence has calculated the probabilities for assigning skin lesion to various diseases:

Disease Probability

Assessment of the lesion

Two of the evaluated diseases – melanoma and basal cell carcinoma – are malignant diseases that require immediate treatment by a dermatologist.

Based on the probabilities, a computer algorithm has evaluated the risk for a malignant disease.

Please keep in mind: The probability calculation as well as the assignment to a risk level were done exclusively by computer programs.

The results could at best be juged as an initial assessment and in no way replace the consultation of a doctor!

Low Risk Scientific background: The probability of melanoma and basal cell carcinoma is less than 20%.
Intermediate Risk Scientific background: The probability of melanoma or basal cell carcinoma is between 20% and 50%.
High Risk Scientific background: The probability of melanoma or basal cell carcinoma is higher than 50%.
Uncertain Scientific background: Probability does not allow a scientifically prooved risk assessment.

What's Next

Depending on the assessment of the risk of a malignant skin change, you should consider the following option:

The probability of a malignant disease is low and no special therapy is required. However, the skin lesion should continue to be observed and a dermatologist should be consulted if the lesion changes.

The results of the evaluation are not clear. A final evaluation should be made by a dermatologist.

If you have problems to find a dermatologist nearby, Caty could help you to find an expert.

If it is actually a malignant skin lesion, it should be removed by a dermatologist. In this case, you should seriously consider consulting a local dermatologist.

The artificial intelligence could not make an assessment with sufficient accuracy. You should consider to consult a dermatologist.
